Frequently
Asked Questions
I
understand that you cannot get a GPS fix when the phone is not in
line of sight of the satellites, e.g. when indoors. How does Kinesis
know where I am in this scenario?
It is true that, when indoors, a GPS receiver cannot get an exact
fix of its position. However, the Benefon phones remembers the last
position and time that it obtained before loosing GPS coverage. It
is this fix that is sent to Kinesis if the SOS button is pressed.
So, for example, if a user enters a house, the last GPS fix will be
typically at the doorstep of the house, enabling us to get a practical
position of the user with reasonable accuracy.
So who does Kinesis contact in the event of the panic button
being pressed?
That depends on your instructions and on the information that we gather
from the hands-free voice call that is instigated when the SOS button
is pushed. If it is clear from the voice call that the user is under
a real threat of violence, we will contact the emergency services
immediately. We will also contact any designated individual within
your organisation to make them aware of the situation. Our response
is a process we develop with you to give you the service you require.
Can I track my workforce so that, if the situation is one where
the individual requires reassurance by the presence of a colleague,
I can send my nearest employee to the location?
Alongside its standard monitoring function, Kinesis can offer you
a range of tracking packages to suit your budget that will allow you
to know where your employees are at any given time.
What is the minimum contract length for Kinesis monitoring
service?
The minimum contract length is 12 months.
Can I use my existing mobile phone numbers with the Benefon
phones?
Yes. The Benefon phone will utilise the SIM card of any UK network.
If you wish to replace your existing handset with a Benefon, we will
work with your mobile phone Service Provider to ensure that you get
the best upgrade deal. One point you should bare in mind is that our
service response times are dependent on the Mobile Network Providers
SMS performance. Within the same network, this is generally a quick
and very reliable transmission process. However sometimes SMS transmissions
across networks can be slower.
What if I want the Benefon to have a new mobile phone number?
Kinesis can provide you with a new SIM card for your Benefon, or again
we can work with your existing Service Provider to provide you with
new SIM cards.
Can I use the monitoring service when abroad?
Currently, the Kinesis monitoring service only works within the UK.
However, some of our tracking solutions do cover mainland Europe,
so you will still be able to determine where your employees are, providing
that you have a suitable roaming agreement in place with your Network
Operator.
